Kihei (Hawaiian: Khei, pronounced [tihj) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Maui County, Hawaii, United States. It is considered to be the South Side of Maui, located on the leeward side of Haleakala. The climate is arid, receiving no more than 10 inches (250 mm) of rain per year. The Kihei Junction Park and Ride lot is a frequently-used commuter parking lot at the corner of highway 310 (North Kihei Road) and highway 30 (Honoapi'ilani Highway) There is no public bus service that stops here; however, it is located near Ma 'alaea Harbor Village, where there is a public transportation stop. It's primarily used for hikers, bicyclists and ride sharers looking for a meeting place that is centrally located between Kihei, Lahaina and Wailuku. Kihei is home to the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC), which is overseen by the Air Force Air Force Optical and Supercomputing Center (AFOS) Kihei was named for NCAA champion basketball player and NCAA Division I basketball champion I.V. Clark, who was named after his father, William Clark, the director of the Kihei Division of Athletics at the University of Virginia. The population of the CDP was 21,423 at the 2020 census, and is expected to grow to 22,000 by the end of the decade.

The CDP has a total area of 11.7 square miles (30.2 km²), of which 9.3square miles (24.0 km²) is land and 2.4square miles ("6.2km²") is water. It has a population of 2,816. It is located in the state of Hawaii, and is part of the Maui County, Hawaii, Division of the Hawaiian Islands. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates the CDP's population to be 2,716. The area has a land area of 9.4 square miles, or 24.0km², and a water area of 20.44 square miles. The town has a climate of arid to semi-arid desert with no rain in excess of 10 inches per year, and an average of 250mm of rain in a year. Its climate is very dry, with an average annual rainfall of 250 mm (7.5 inches) or less. The city is located on a volcanic island, which is a part of Hawaii's Big Island. It lies on the eastern side of the Big Island, on the north side of a mountain range.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16,749 people, 6,170 households, and 3,813 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,648.6 inhabitants per square mile (636.5/km²). There were 9,170 housing units at an average density of 902.6 per squaremile (348.5 /km²) The racial makeup of the C DP was 47.76% White, 6.74% African American, 0.48% Native American, 24.72% Asian, 7.85% Pacific Islander, 1.58% from other races, and 16.87% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.52% of the population. The median income for a household in theCDP was $46,215, and the median income. for a family was $50,738. The per capita income was $21,591. About 7.0% of families and 10.1% of people were below the poverty line, including 8.8% of those under age 18 and 5.1%. The CDP is home to the New York Mets, the New Jersey Devils, and New York City FC. The New York Yankees play the Giants in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 26, 2014. The Giants are the defending champions of the New England Conference and the National Football League. The Mets are the top-ranked team in the NFC.

Attractions

The Kihei Aquatic Center hosts swim meets and other aquatic activities. The center is located in the center of Kihei, a city in the island of Honshu. It is located near the Kihei Beach, which is popular with surfers and swimmers. It also hosts a number of other activities, such as swimming and other water sports.

Namesakes

University of Virginia basketball player and NCAA Division I champion Kihei Clark was named for Kihei, where his father proposed to his mother. Kihei is a native of the town of Kihei in the island nation of Honshu, Japan. He is the son of a former U.S. Marine and a former member of the U.V. women's basketball team. He also has a brother, Kihei Jr., who was born in Kihei and is also a U.VA basketball player. He was named after Kihei's father, who proposed to him at the same place his mother did. He has a sister, Kihei, who was also born in the town. He and his brother have a son, Kihee Jr., and a daughter, Kihea, who is also named Kihei. They have two sons, both of whom are also basketball players. They were born in 2009 and 2010. They play for the University of Virginia's men's and women's teams. They also played for the UVA women's team in 2011 and 2012. They won the NCAA D-I Division I basketball championship in 2011. They are both still playing for the Virginia men's team. They will play in the 2014-15 season. They hope to win the NCAA men's championship in 2015-16. They would also like to win it again in 2016-17, if they can qualify for the NCAA women's tournament.
