Newcastle is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Placer County, California. It is located 8 miles (12.9 km) northeast of Rocklin and 31 miles northeast of Sacramento. History
Newcastle was founded in the 19th century. The region is also in the vicinity of what was the cradle of "gold country" In the mid-19th century a flurry of miners and gold prospectors searched for their fortune. During this time, however, the town of Newcastle was known more for its orchards rather than abundant gold mines. The Newcastle post office opened in 1864. The town is located on the Central Pacific Railroad line, which was built in the 1860s and 1870s. It is now home to the Newcastle International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the U.S., with a capacity of more than 1.5 million passengers and 300,000 vehicles per day. The airport is located in the city of Newcastle, California, which has a population of 1.6 million. The city is also home to a number of other tourist attractions, including the Biltmore Hotel and the San Francisco Opera House. The railway line was completed in 1865, and the town was established in 1868. The post office was opened in1864. It was the first railway station in the United States to be named after a city. The first passenger trains began operating over the first 31 miles of Central Pacific's line to Newcastle June 10, 1864, when political opposition and lack of money stopped further construction during that mild winter. Construction was resumed in April, 1865, when the line was fully completed. The station was named after Newcastle's first post office, which had been opened in 1863.

The community has a history of violence, including the deaths of three men in the early 1900s. The current CDP population is 2,611. The village has a growth rate of 1.2% per year, the highest in the United States, and is located near the town of San Diego, California. It is the only CDP in the state to have a population over 1,000 in the city's eastern part, and one of the few CDPs to have more than 1,200 residents. It also has the highest percentage of people living in poverty, at 0.8%.

The racial makeup of Newcastle was 1,113 (90.9%) White, 104 (8.5%) Hispanic or Latino of any race, 19 (1.6%) Native American, 17 (1.4%) Asian, 7 (0.6) African American, 35 (2.9) from other races, and 33 (2.7%) from two or more races. There were 597 housing units at an average density of 249.1 per square mile (96.2/km²), of which 430 were owner-occupied, and 115 (21.1%) were occupied by renters. The homeowner vacancy rate was 4.4%; the rental vacancy rates was 12.2%. 923 people (75.4% of the population) lived in owner- occupied housing units and 293 people (23.9% of population) live in rental housing units. The average household size was 2.23. There are 323 families (59.3% of all households); the average family size is 2.86.
