Inver Grove Heights is a city in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 35,801 at the 2020 census. The city was formed on March 9, 1965, with the merger of the village of Inver Grove and InverGrove Township. It is one of 186 cities and townships in the seven-county Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area. Invergrove Heights is 9 miles (14 km) southeast of Saint Paul; nearby communities are South St. Paul, West St.Paul, Sunfish Lake, Eagan, Newport, and Saint Paul Park. In 2022, a meteoric impact crater was identified in the Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific and Natural Area. It has been informally named the "Pine Bend impact" and has been dated to 500 million years ago. The crater has a diameter of about four kilometers and is located near the town of Broderick near West Loop Court. The U.S. Air force B-52D bomber crashed while on a Cold War training mission originating from Loring Air Force Base, Limestone, Maine, on September 16, 1958, killing seven crewmen. The crash site is now known as the "B-52 Crash Site" The city has an area of 30.12 square miles (78.01 km²), of which 27.76 sq miles (71.90 km²) is land and 2.36sq miles (6.11 km²") is water. It was named after the Irish fishing village of inver and the German town of Grove.
History
Inver Grove Heights is the primary city name, but also Inver Grove, South Saint Paul, South St Paul are acceptable city names or spellings. Settlers from Ireland and Germany staked claims in the rolling countryside west of the Mississippi River. 240 farms, four churches, and four school districts were founded by 1880. Inver Grove Heights was named after the Irish fishing village of Inver and the German town of Grove. On March 9, 1965, the village and township merged to form InverGrove Heights. The community is home to the Rock Island Swing Bridge, which was built in 1894 and closed to rail traffic in 1980 and to road traffic in 1999, it opened as Swing Bridge park in 2011. It is also the site of the B-52 crash site, where seven crewmen gave their lives for the U.S. Air Force in the 1958 Cold War bombing of Loring Air Force Base, Limestone, Maine.

The city is located in the state of Minnesota, and is located near the state capital of Saint Paul. It is the home of the University of Minnesota's football team, the Mankato Dormammu Vikings, and the Minnesota Vikings hockey team. The Minnesota Twins play the Minnesota Twins in the National Football League (NFC) and the NFL's Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game on Sunday, December 17.
