History
Center City was platted in 1857, and named from its location near the geographic center. A post office was established as Centre City in 1858, and the name was changed to Center City in 1893. The city was named after the Center River, which runs through the city's center. It was named for the center of the city, which is located near the town's central business district. The town's name was first used as a place of business in the mid-1850s. The name was later changed to its current name, Center City, by the city council in the early 1900s.
