Southern University is a private university with an online campus located in unincorporated Orange Beach, with students in grade 7-10-10 and grade 12-10 attending online classes. The school system is part of the Baldwin County Public Schools district, which also has a private school in the unincorporated town of Shores, Alabama, which has a public school system that serves seventh through 12th grade students. It has a diameter of about 2.5 miles (4.5 km²), and an area of 1.8 miles (2.7 km²). It has an elevation of 7.2 square miles (14.1 km²) to the top of the bluff.

Sports

The Orange Beach Sportsplex is a football/soccer stadium with a seating capacity of 1,500. The facility also has several baseball and softball fields. Orange Beach is home to the Orange Beach Running Club, which meets every Monday evening to run a 5K. A 112 feet (34 m) high Ferris wheel is located at The Wharf in Orange Beach. The Backcountry Trail system through the Gulf State Park has a trailhead located at the Sportsplex. The Sportsplex has hosted the SEC Women's Soccer Tournament on numerous occasions, in addition to the NCAA Division II men and women's soccer tournament. It once served as home to. the Alabama Lightning of the North American Football League. It is located north of the Gulf state Park and a short distance from The Wharf. The city of Orange Beach hosts many sporting events and tournaments at the sportsplex. It has also hosted the NCAA Men and Women's Division II soccer tournament on several occasions, as well as the SEC Men and Woman's Division I soccer tournament in the 1990s and 2000s. The sportsplex was built in the 1970s and 1980s. It was originally built as a football stadium, but was later converted into a baseball/softball stadium. It also has a baseball andsoftball field, which has a capacity of more than 1,000. The backcountry trail system is located in the area, and a trail head is located near the stadium. The trailhead is also near the sports complex.

Education

Orange Beach Elementary School is the city's only school and serves students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. Students in grades seven and twelve attend Orange Beach Middle and High School.Columbia Southern University is a private online-only university that is located in Orange Beach. For the 2019-2020 school year Orange Beach grade 7-10 students had a choice between remaining with Gulf Shores schools or attending temporary classrooms established by Baldwin County schools. In 2019 those schools separated into the GulfShores City Schools district. The new Orange Beach middle and high school will open in 2020. The school is located on Canal Road with a campus on the Beach Express road and a larger campus in the middle of the city. The high school is on Beach Express Road on the south side of Orange Beach and the middle school on the north side of the beach.

Recreation

Orange Beach offers a wide selection of family beach vacation opportunities. Bird Island, Robinson Island, Gilchrist Island, and Walker Island are located within minutes of each other. The best way to get to the Orange Beach Islands is by boat, kayak, paddleboard, or jet ski. There is no safe way of getting to theOrange Beach Islands by foot, and the currents make it unsafe to swim. The Islands of Perdido Pass are also known as the "Islands of the Gulf of Mexico" and are located just off the coast of San Diego. They are a group of four islands that are all located within a few miles of one another. The islands are known for their dolphin cruises, golf course condo communities, beach houses, and everything in between. For entertainment, locals and visitors head to the orange Beach Islands, also known to the locals as the 'Island of the Sea', consisting of Bird, Robinson, and Gilchrist Islands.
