The town is located on the banks of the Iowa River, which runs through the center of the town. It is located in Iowa's Pekin County, which is also known as the Pekins River Valley, and the Pecos River valley, which flows through the north and south sides of the city. It has a population of about 1,000. The city's population was 1,200 at the time of the 2010 Census, and it has a current population of 1,300. It was the setting for the film "The Rimers Of Eldritch" (1974), starring Susan Sarandon and Rue McClenahan. It also appeared in the TV movie "The Rimmer's Daughter" (1976) and the TV series "The Ring" (1978) The town's name is derived from the word "rimmer" which means "to hear" or "to see" and "rime" in English. The community's nickname is "The Pecksville" (pronounced "pennies"). The town was founded in the early 1800s.
