Cincinnatus

Cincinnatus is a town in Cortland County, New York, United States. The town is named after the Roman general Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus. It is in the eastern part of the county and is east of the city of Cortland. Members of the Oneida tribe persisted in the town during its early history. It was first settled circa 1795 and was one of the original six towns of Cortlands County. In 1818, the town was split so that part of its territory was used to create the towns of Freetown, Willet, and Marathon. The Cincinnatiatus Historic District, consisting of 14 properties, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, theTown has a total area of 25.5 square miles (66.0 km²), of which 25.4 square mile (65.7 km²) is land and 0.3 km², or 0.51%, is water. New York State Route 26 is a north-south highway in Cincinnati, which conjoins State Route 41 near the town center. The Otselic River valley is central to the town; the river is part the Susquehanna River watershed. A hamlet along the Otlic River is called Aletus. The population was 910 at the 2020 census, and it is expected to grow to 910 by the end of the decade. In 2000, there were 1,051 people, 418 households, and 282 families residing in theTown of C Cincinnati.

History

Cincinnatus is the primary city name, but also East Freetown are acceptable city names or spellings, E Freetown, E Freetwn, Taylor on the other hand no longer accepted or obsolete and are no longer used as a designation. The official name is Cincinnatus, New York. The town was first settled circa 1795. It was one of the original six towns of Cortland County. Members of the Oneida tribe persisted in the town during its early history. The town was formed from the town of Solon in 1804. In 1818, Cincinnatus was split so that part of its territory was used to create the towns of Freetown, Willet, and Marathon. The Cincinnatiatus Historic District, consisting of 14 properties, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The region was part of the Central New York Military Tract used to pay soldiers of the American Revolution. One of the townships was named C Cincinnati, which means "cincinnatian" in English. The area is home to the C Cincinnati Museum of Art, which was founded in 1851. The museum is located in the Cincinnati neighborhood of New York City, New York, and is open to the general public. It is also home to a number of other historic sites, such as the Cincinnatians House and C Cincinnati State Park, which were built in the 19th century. The city is located on the Hudson River, which is a tributary of the East River, and was once the source of the Hudson. It has a population of about 3,000 people, making it the second largest city in New York state after Newburgh. The population of the town is about 4,000. It also has a small number of historical sites, including the Town of C Cincinnati.

New York State Route 26 is a north-south highway in Cincinnatus, which conjoins NY-26 near the town center and NY-23 near the village. The town is located in the northern part of New York's Adirondack Park, which includes the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York and parts of New England. It is the only town in the state to have a post office, which was established in 1881. It was the first post office in New York state, opening in 1883. The post office closed in 1891, and was replaced by a new post office that opened in 1894. The current post office was opened in 1896, and the post office has been open since 1891. It has a current population of 1,071. It lies on the New York River, which is the main source of water for the town. The river is a tributary of the Hudson River, and is a major waterway for New York City and the rest of the state. It also drains into the Hudson at the town's eastern border.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,051 people, 418 households, and 282 families residing in the town. The racial makeup of the town was 98.00% White, 0.19% African American, 1.33% from two or more races, and 1.29% from other races. There were 453 housing units at an average density of 17.8 per square mile (6.9/km²) The town's population was spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 27.2 percent from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.4 per cent who were 65 years of age or older. The median income for a household was $37,014, and $44,375 for a family. The per capita income for the town is $18,345. About 4.5% of families and 7.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.3 per cent of those under age 18 and 8.8 percent of those age 65 or over. The town is located in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Corps of Engineer District of New Mexico, which is part of the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. It is the only U.N. state in the region that does not have a state-wide census-designated place of origin or place of residence. The state's largest city is Bakersfield, California.

It is located south of Cincinnati village on NY-23. The city of Gouverneur is located in the south, along NY Route 25. The county seat is Gouverneurs and is located near the town of Taylor. The state capital is Syracuse, New York, and is located on the New York-Pennsylvania border. The population is 2,816. The largest city is Copenhagen, New Hampshire, with a population of 1,817. The most populous county is Poughkeepsie, New Jersey, with 1,715. The smallest town is Rochester, New England, with an population of 1,071.
