The town was founded on the Muscle Shoals Canal in 1957. It is located on the Alabama-Mississippi state line, about 30 miles south of the state capital of Montgomery. The population of Killen was 1,108 at the 2010 census. At the 2000 census there were 1, 119 people, 435 households, and 338 families in the town. The median income for the town was $43,203, and the median family income was $47,596. About 6.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.8% of those under age 18 and 8.4%. of those age 65 or over. The average household size was 2.92. Bush, who was born in Killen in 1858.
